Mary Kate Morrissey is a musical theater actor, educator, and creator who recently completed her celebrated run as Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway. She spent a decade traveling to 92 cities across North America, starring in the national tours of Wicked (Elphaba), Mean Girls (Janis), and Hair (Sheila), before making her Broadway debut as the Elphaba Standby. She will next take on the role of Elsa in Frozen at Paper Mill Playhouse. During the pandemic, Mary Kate co-founded Double Name Witches, a virtual musical theater school that became an artistic home for more than 100 students ages 5–30, giving her a front-row seat to the transformative power of arts education. A passionate advocate for the development of new work, MK has collaborated with leading institutions including The Public Theater, Paper Mill Playhouse, Sundance Institute, Vineyard Arts, The O’Neill, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley, Portland Center Stage, Signature Theatre (DC), and Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Her work as a creator and arts innovator has been featured in Forbes, Bustle, The Washington Post, and Business Insider.
